Heads Weekly update 21st June 2019
Sunday 23 Jun 2019
With just two full weeks left of the school term, I’m sure you’ll be gearing up for the summer holidays. Though there is only a short time left of this school year, there’s a huge amount going on before we break up for the summer holidays; we had Sports Day today, Year 13 Leavers’ Dinner tonight, Activities Week / Rockley Trip next week, Year 7 transition days, Junior School transition days, LodgeFest (Friday 4th July) and then our Prize Giving.
I have to begin with a thank you to Mr Tony Gear. Mr Gear, our Head of Sport, organises a wonderful Sports Day. The vision for our sports day is to be inclusive but competitive whilst being serious but fun. I think that each year since we changed the format of Sports Day, Mr Gear absolutely delivers on this. Nothing highlights the tone of our sports day quite like the tug of war competition! If you were able to enjoy the sunshine with us today and be part of sports day, thank you.
Congratulations go to the Key Stage 1 overall winner Harry, Lily, the Junior Victrix Ludorum, Theo, the Junior Victor Ludorum, Will, the Senior Victor Ludorum and Prav, the Senior Victrix Ludorum. The house points totals from today are as follows:
1. 34.22 Points: Dedicas House
2. 33.24 Points: Amicus House
3. 32.54 Points: Veritas House
Congratulations to Dedicas House! This victory will go a long way to winning the house cup in the summer.
Keeping in the spirit of thank you, I must thank Miss Walker and the music team for the exceptional Beatles performance on Thursday evening. The concert raised £317.15 for charity and allowed our brilliant pupils to showcase their musical talents. Whilst I was unable to attend, Miss Partridge was keeping me up to date! Another thank you to our Year 10 pupils and Miss Bliss who raised £233 for the charity Mind as part of their bake sale earlier in the week. Kindness is one of our core values and it is brilliant to see this shining through in the actions of our school community to support such exceptional causes.
Next week is very different for our Senior School pupils – many will be joining Mr Gear, Mrs Gill, Miss Hill, Mr Hawkins and Mr Smart on the Rockley residential trip. For those still in school, Miss Partridge has put together a wonderful activities week that will be challenging and enjoyable for all the pupils involved. I know that the Junior School are particularly looking forward to having the rule of the school with the majority of the Senior pupils out and about – Reception have many times mentioned how excited they are to “be the bosses” next week. I’m assuming this is in relation to all the trips and activities being out and that there isn’t a coup planned from the EYFS against Mr James and I.
Over the next two weeks, many of our new staff that are joining us for September 2019 will be in school to get to know the pupils and fellow staff. At the start of the summer, I’ll send out my customary update letter with our planned school improvements and to remind you of our new joiners. As the school has expanded in the last few years, there’s a lot of new faces to remember!
I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
