Heads weekly update 17th November 2017

Head of School

Dear Parents,

This week, our motto comes from Veritas House:
“Embrace, don’t resent, other opinions”. Helping children to engage with debates around topics and issues or to take on board the point of views of others is an important part of our ethos. This could easily be a motto for Amicus as it has as much to do with respect as it does with honesty and reflecting.

After the better part of a full term working with the new house system, I hope that you have enjoyed having the weekly mantras and that your child continues to be excited about representing their house. Our Heads of Houses,
Madagame Gill (Veritas), Mrs O’Sullivan (Amicus) and Ms Lewis (Dedicas), continue to be full of competitive spirit! Don’t forget, you’re able to fill out a house quiz to find out which house you’d be in, too. Fill in the form (found here) and Ms Partridge will drop you an email to let you know which House you are part of. I’m hopeful that we can trigger some (friendly) family rivalries.

After a few months of discussions, we have now reached an agreement with the contractors on the Homewood site. Please find a letter outlining the agreement and the planned works here. Our paramount concern will always be ensuring the safety and learning of the children and this has driven our discussions over the past few months. I hope you will be confident that we have taken this fully into account but if you do have concerns, do please get in touch.

I am delighted to be able to share our significant growth from last year has continued; we have the highest level of enquiries we have ever had and the most advanced sign-ups we have ever had, too. Whether we’re looking at Reception, Year 3 or Year 7, the number of enquiries and pupils signed up to join is really pushing our admissions team to keep up! I have no doubt that much of this growth is down to the kind words you will share with friends and colleagues about the experiences of your children – thank you very much!

If your child is in Year 10 or Year 11, don’t forget we will be holding our Sixth Form Open Evening on Wednesday 22nd November from 7pm. Do come along to find out more about the provision we have on offer for pupils in the Sixth Form. A digital copy of our Sixth Form Information Booklet can be found here.

As the cold weather sets in, I hope that you have a lovely weekend to look forward to. Disappointed as I was with the Australia result, I’m hopeful Wales will be a little better this weekend.
