Sport is an integral part of life at Arnold Lodge School. We encourage a life-long passion for physical activity by giving pupils the opportunity to try a variety of individual and team games.

To us, sport is about much more than just physical activity. It helps children to learn about themselves, especially under pressure, and how to work effectively as a team, leader or opponent.

Sport develops mental – as well as physical – fitness, self-confidence, perseverance and resilience.

It can also be a great way to clear and refocus the mind, with children getting back to the classroom able to work harder and smarter, or even with a different perspective.

Reception to Year 2

It is important for children to become involved in physical activity and sport from the earliest age. There is a strong focus on enjoyment and the development of motor skills.

Sessions include multi-skills, gymnastics, dance, football, hockey, cricket and tennis. All children also participate in swimming lessons.

Year 3 to 6

From Year 3, children have three and a half hours of PE and games sessions each week. They have the use of the outstanding facilities at the University of Warwick including AstroTurf and 3G pitches, full size athletics track, climbing wall, sports halls, and a 25-metre swimming pool.

We also make regular use of Leamington Cricket Club, the Local Tennis Club and Leamington Squash Club.

Pupils receive expert teaching from specialist coaches and are selected for teams from Year 3.

The main team games are football, hockey, netball and rounders. Teams also enter tennis, athletics, cross-country running, rowing and swimming competitions.
