The school day runs from 8:20am to 3:30pm for Junior School with care available before and after school times from 8am to 6pm.
Reception, Years 1 and Year 2 are housed in the Alkerton building and enjoy their own playground and outside space, including a climbing frame, a vegetable patch for growing their own produce and plenty of space to enjoy.
Healthy lunch
Pupils can bring in a small, healthy snack for morning break. Lunch is served in the school dining hall between 12:00 – 12:50 and is an opportunity to socialise with pupils and teachers eating together.
Many children will take part in a lunchtime club on one or more days, giving them a chance to sing, dance, play an instrument or learn a new skill.
Learning
Year 1 and Year 2
In Year 1, learning of the core curriculum in the mornings is supported by less formal afternoon sessions.
More structured teaching of the curriculum is gradually increased, with children being taught the full range of curriculum subjects by their class teacher.
In Year 2, children continue to learn Spanish, Music, P.E and Drama with specialist subject teachers.
For both years 1 and 2, a broad and enriching curriculum is supported by having small classes sizes – an average of 16 – with excellent teaching. This approach allows our Key Stage 1 pupils to benefit from a nurturing ethos whilst providing a rigorous and challenging academic foundation.
Year 3 and Year 4
For Years 3 and 4, children continue to have a class form tutor, who provides excellent pastoral care as well as academic support, for much of the day. Like Key Stage 1, pupils in Key Stage 2 benefit from small classes (on average, under 18 pupils) and the same exceptional teaching standards.
At this stage they will also continue to extend the repertoire of lessons with specialist teachers from the Senior School with Food Technology, Computer Science, Drama, Music, Spanish and P.E.
Year 5 and Year 6
In Years 5 and Year 6, children move more around the Senior School whilst maintaining a base with their form tutor and form classroom for their Science, English and Maths lessons.
In Years 5 and 6, pupils continue to benefit from specialist subject teaching across a range of specialist sessions.
Extension & Enrichment (ExEn) – afterschool sessions
An exciting range of after school clubs from disco dancing, sewing and karate to literacy club and games are offered from 4:00pm to 5:00pm.
Aftercare is then provided until 6pm each day (additional charges apply), where children can play and relax (tea is provided).
