Next Thursday (4th March) is World Book Day and Arnold Lodge are going to celebrate it by having a whole week of activities. The Junior School and the Senior School have teamed up to make this year extra special as we will all be celebrating it remotely. Next week's remote learning has been designed around the theme 'ALS goes to Disneyland'.
Junior School
In English lessons each year group, has chosen one of the books behind a Disney movie to study for the week. For example Year 3 will be looking at a lovely rhyming version of the original text of Barrie's Peter Pan and Year 6 will be looking at the laws of the jungle in Kipling's 'The Jungle Book'.
In curriculum lessons and form times, we will be taking a virtual tour of Disneyland and checking out all of the rides that the park has to offer. There will also be a series of exciting activities to be completed during the week based on Disney, such as designing and building your own magic carpet or creating your own Kung Fu sequence to the backing track from Mulan. There will also be a number of Senior School teachers who will be helping to read some stories for our youngest pupils.
On the day of World Book Day (Thursday 4th March), we will be holding a special assembly for everyone on Zoom. It would be wonderful if the children could dress up as a character from a book or as a Disney character for the day. This is not compulsory, and we completely understand if this is not possible in the current climate. Please take photos of any outfits worn on the day and send them in to your class teacher.

Senior School
For World Book Day, our whole school theme will be 'Disney', which may sound rather odd, considering that it is predominantly a film company, however, we will be focusing on how a plethora of books have inspired many Disney films. During English lessons on Thursday 4th March 2021, students in Key Stage 3 will study a book that has inspired a Disney film, with Year 7 focusing on the Grimm Fairy Tales, Year 8 studying Shakespeare as inspiration for The Lion King and Year 9 reading Victor Hugo's The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Pupils in all Key Stages will have an assembly to introduce World Book Day and during mentor time will participate in activities during the week, which will also revolve around World Book Day.
Although we will not be dressing up for World Book Day in the Senior School this year, as a result of the circumstances that we find ourselves in, I hope you will agree that World Book Day will be celebrated in abundance at Arnold Lodge and our costumes next year will exceed all previous attempts!
