Pupils have been travelling the world, albeit virtually, as a Warwickshire school enjoys a week of school trips with a difference.
Trip Week at Arnold Lodge School, a leading Co-educational Independent Day School in Leamington Spa, has taken place online this year, giving pupils a taste of destinations around the world.
Subjects such as Science, Art, English, Food Technology and Drama, have taken Senior School pupils virtually to global destinations as part of their studies.
In English lessons, pupils have virtually visited The Globe to watch Romeo and Juliet, while Science and History students have visited museums around the world to take part in scavenger hunts to find artifacts before answering questions about them.
As well as a virtual trip to Barcelona in Spanish lessons to create tourist information leaflets on the area, pupils have been experiencing the top ten rollercoasters from home in Physics for their lessons on forces.
Kenny Owen, Head of Senior School at Arnold Lodge School, said: “Trip Week would typically see our Senior School pupils heading to destinations such as the Battlefields in Belgium, sailing in France or the Houses of Parliament, but this year with Covid and online learning, we’ve had to be a bit more creative.
“Instead, our pupils have been digitally visiting locations across the globe, and focusing their lessons for each subject on their trips.
“Our subject teachers have really committed to making this week different and exciting for the pupils, it’s a real shame that they are missing out on so much at the minute, so we wanted to give them a taste of their usual trips, for them to experience at home.”
The Performing Arts Faculty took their studies to New York, with pupils listening to music from Broadway shows, learning about the behind-the-scenes of productions in Drama, recreating New York dishes in Food Technology and taking inspiration from the city’s famous landmarks for Art.
He added: “We are hoping that these trips can be rescheduled once it is safe to do so, but for now, it’s been wonderful to see all our Senior School pupils getting involved with their online learning and experiencing these virtual trips around the world.
“These are such tough times for all of us, but young people particularly are missing out on so much. We’re so glad to see that they enjoyed learning about different places and cultures for their work this week at home to experience something new.”
