Dear ALS Community,

For the first weekly email of the school year, we join the nation in mourning the passing of Her Majesty The Queen. Today, we have had a special session during mentor time to share the news with pupils and to provide an opportunity for pupils to ask questions and find out more about Her Majesty’s remarkable life. On Monday, we will hold a series of special assemblies in dedication to Queen Elizabeth II.

Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, was a remarkable person who held a strong sense of duty and dedicated her life to her throne and to her people. For our community in particular, The Queen’s sense of integrity, resilience and commitment resonates with our own school values and I hope that the ALS community will continue take much inspiration from the life and example of Her Majesty.

A pupil asked me today which house I think the Queen would have been in. I found it difficult to give an immediate answer. In truth, I think Her Majesty would have suited well any one of our three houses. When I did respond, I said that I thought Her Majesty, having never wavered in her duty, would have been well suited to Dedicas House.

As we know more about the process for mourning the passing of The Queen and the dates for national services, I will write again to provide more information. Should you wish to find a space to mourn and reflect, Reverend Peers from our local Church, Holy Trinity, has asked me to share that the Church will be open daily from today for the next week for reflection, to light a candle and an opportunity to sign the book of condolence.

Best wishes,

David Preston | Headteacher
