Dear ALS Community,

Welcome to the last full weekly email for this school year. This marks a poignant point for me as this is also the last weekly email before changing the format of how we regularly communicate in the new school year for the two phases of the school.

Having had a few years of disruption, this week's weekly email has been written whilst away with Year 9 on the Battlefields Trip. For pupils in Year 9, this is the first trip abroad they have been able to attend during their Senior years and it has been my privilege to accompany them on the trip. From 27 degrees on Tuesday to heavy rain on Thursday, we have had all of the weather!

In a similar vein, Year 7 have enjoyed a residential trip to Cornwall where they have taken in The Tate, Barbara Hepworth Gallery, the Eden Project and St Michael’s Mount. Year 8 have enjoyed a week at Kingswood, an outdoor activity centre taking on the low ropes, high ropes, a climbing wall and not to mention the zip-wire. I am sure they will have benefitted greatly from the experiences they have all had over the past week.

Year 10 and Year 12 have been out of school on work experience visits this week and I am looking forward to hearing all about the variety of work places they have visited and the experience that they have gained.

Not to be outdone, our Juniors also took a trip out this week to Conkers. Reception to Year 6 explored the Enchanted Forest, the Barefoot Walk and thoroughly enjoyed the 4D cinema experience.

Whilst back at school, on Tuesday we hosted our soon-to-be Year 12’s for their Sixth Form Transition Morning before they all head off for a well-deserved break having finished their exams last Friday. It was great to see them all rising to the occasion of wearing their business attire and taking on the mantle of being part of the ALS Sixth Form.

Next week, we close our term with the Year 7 Transition Days on Monday and Tuesday and the ALS Summer Showcase on Tuesday evening. If you have yet to book tickets for the ALS Summer Showcase please do so here. More details can be found in this letter from Miss Crisp.

Finally on Wednesday 6th July we have our Prize Giving ceremonies. As a reminder, the timings for both the Junior and Senior ceremony can be found here. The tickets have now sold out for the Senior Prize Giving. If you haven't managed to book tickets for the Senior Prize Giving do join us for the BBQ back at school afterwards.

Tickets for the Junior Prize Giving ceremony are available here. Book them quickly to avoid any disappointment as we only have a limited number remaining. If you don’t manage to get tickets to the Prize Giving, please do join us for the BBQ back at school afterwards.
A final reminder, that the end of term is at 14:30 for Juniors and for 15:00 for Seniors on Wednesday 6th July.

A final call for any donations for the ALPA raffle, please can these be dropped into the school reception on Monday and they will be pulled together for the raffle which will be held at the BBQ on Wednesday.

On Monday we will be issuing end of year reports for Juniors and Seniors. Juniors will be emailed out from your child’s class teacher. Seniors, you will receive yours through the ALS Parent Portal. Please keep your eyes peeled for a log in link in your emails. Please create an account and your child’s report will be published on Monday. Please note you will not be able to access it prior to its publication on Monday.

If you are in need of any new uniform over the summer holidays, our uniform shop will be open on Thursday and Friday from Thursday 14th July across the holidays. Please email [email protected] to book your appointment.

As is the way, a busy end of term and lots to get through!

Have a lovely weekend.

Best wishes,

David Preston | Headteacher
