Dear ALS Community,

This week, our school mantra comes from Dedicas: be ready to put in the work that isn’t seen. Our school mantras have been around for quite a while now and so I try to shake up how often I layer them into the weekly email but this week I particularly wanted to highlight this ‘hard work’ focused mantra to champion the hidden effort that goes into success. In the weekly email, it is often my privilege to write about the success of our pupils on the sports pitches or in music and whilst it is wonderful to share the pinnacle of the children’s success, for this week I want to champion all the hard work that goes into it from pupils, parents and staff. The grade 8 piano piece, the goals on the hockey pitch or the A* in an examination doesn’t just happen easily; it happens in every moment of effort put in that isn’t seen.

On the sports front, our U9 girls have had their first opportunity to take part in competitive hockey with a tournament hosted by Warwick Prep. It was a very successful event and our hockey team came away with wins over both Warwick teams, Solihull and Bablake with draws against Spratton and Carrdus. Congratulations to Matilda, Yr3, who was top scorer at the tournament and there were strong performances from Hattie and Eleanor. Well done all.

Next week we will be holding our Sixth Form Taster for our current Year 11 and prospective new Sixth Form pupils to come and experience life in Sixth Form. Alongside 4 taster lessons for future subjects, pupils will have an enrichment session (preparing for life beyond Sixth Form) and an enrichment activity (think ready steady cook…) which is also designed to reflect how we help pupils prepare for life beyond school. It’s sure to be a wonderful day for the pupils attending and I look forward to seeing the dishes they create!

Before we turn to Christmas and the events coming up before the end of this term, the ALS ski trip is heading off to Italy during February half term and there are still a few places left on the trip. The ski trip will run from Saturday 18th February to Saturday 25th February 2023 and is open to pupils of all skiing abilities who are currently in Year 7, 8, 9, 10 and 12. If your child is interested in joining the trip, please email Mrs Bottrill ([email protected]) for further information.

As we look towards the Christmas festivities, we have a number of events to share. Firstly, the Reception and Year 1 & 2 Christmas Performances on Thursday 1st December. If you haven’t booked your tickets yet for these please do so here (Reception / Year1&2), it’s always a treat to see our youngest take to the big stage. We have the Juniors’ Celebration Assembly on Thursday 8th December at 2:30pm which also doubles as our Christmas Jumper day here at ALS. On Friday 9th December, ALPA are organising the annual Christmas Fayre, from 3:00 – 5:00pm here in the School Hall. More information can be found here. Finally, to end the term, the ALS Carol Service will take place on Tuesday 13th December at 7:00pm, more information can be found in this letter and if you would like to book tickets please do so here. I do hope to see you all at something before the term is out.

In the meantime, have a wonderful weekend.

Best wishes,

David Preston | Headteacher
