Dear ALS Community, I am Freya and I’m in Year 5. I only joined Arnold Lodge a few months ago, and I have already had so many fun experiences! My first fun experience was only on my second day when we had a Halloween disco, everyone was dressed up and I dressed up as witch. All the girls and boys were really nice, and welcoming and by the end of the week I had settled in. We all dressed up for the Halloween disco which the Sixth Formers organized for us. There was face painting and lots of party games, including mummifying Miss Burcham, Mr Dobson and Miss Dodd! I have a fun time on the playground and in the classroom because of my teachers Miss Dodd and Miss Burcham who make the lessons fun. My favourite subject is English because I enjoy writing fantasy stories and reading. I am reading Harry Potter, The Philosopher’s Stone and I’m nearly at the end of the book. I am looking forward to reading the other 6 books and finding out what happens. We are learning about the geography of the local area at the moment and how to read a map which is really interesting. Last week we went on a residential school trip to Newquay where we learnt to surf, we also did body boarding, coasteering and we had a BBQ and silent disco on the beach. I think that is my favourite memory so far of being at Arnold Lodge. We have also been on school trips to the Botanical Gardens and on Monday we went to Young Voices. Young Voices was such an experience, the Resorts World Arena in Birmingham was huge and there were so many people. Some performers on stage taught us how to beat box and did a dance performance. We had a really late night and got to have a lie in on Tuesday morning. I am in Veritas, the house of honesty and my favourite lunch is cheese pizza. I am really looking forward to being in Year 6 because there are some new pupils joining us and we will get the opportunity to be a Prefect. As part of ExEn I do sewing club and I am just finishing of my pencil case and then I am going to start making a scented pillow lama which is going to have lavender inside it. I also do fencing after school which I started quite recently which I am loving as it’s a bit different. Tomorrow is my first open day at Arnold Lodge which I am really excited about. Pupils need to be in their full school uniform (or PE kit if they are taking part in PE) and dropped off at 9:45am at the school gates. The gates will not be open earlier than this time. Please can pupils bring their water bottles and a snack with them. Pupils will be ready to collect from 13:00 unless your child’s class teacher or form tutor has advised you otherwise. I am really looking forward to showing the prospective pupils around the classrooms and telling them my experience of Arnold Lodge. This week our mantra is from Dedicas, Mr Scott, the Head of Dedicas writes; our mantra for this week comes from Dedicas ‘only expect from others what you are willing to put in’. This idea has been epitomised perfectly in the news in recent months. Volodymyr Zelenskyy has attracted attention for his contributions and involvement in military operations in the conflict from Russia. His bravery aligns with the notion that even those with responsibility of the highest order can reciprocate the efforts that they expect from others in order to succeed as a collective. As a school body, we can learn from this, we must aim to take responsibility for our own success before we turn to others and expect them to do it for us. When we return from half term, here are some key dates for your diary: - Monday 6th June – Queen’s Jubilee non-uniform day (red, white and blue)
- Friday 24th June – ALS Sports Day
- Wednesday 6th July – Junior & Senior Celebration Assemblies and BBQ
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to write the weekly email this week and I hope I have given you an insight into what we are getting up to in Year 5. I really enjoy Arnold lodge, all the other children are really nice and I hope I get to stay here for many years to come. Best wishes, Freya | Year 5 |
